BIM

Introduction

Apart from BBS, MBS and BBA Programme, SDC introduced Bachelor of Information Management (BIM) of Tribhuvan University in 2013. It is a full time morning programme under Faculty of Management (FOM), TU with 8 semesters covering an international standard period of 4 years. It has 72 credit hours of information technology courses, 27 credit hours of management courses and 27 credit hours of analytical and support course.

The BIM programme is a practical and valuable means of gaining a business qualification that provides an exposure to the challenges of doing business in a global context. The programme has a wide coverage of conceptual inputs and has emphasis on practical applications that familiarize students with the overall functioning of organizations and their interactions with the total environment within which they operate.

Dear Students, it’s my immense pleasure to welcome you all in the program Bachelor of Information Management (BIM). Your millennial are living at epitome of competition; and we have built infrastructure and set faculties with handful of experiences in imparting skill and carving knowledge to lead you always in the front pace. Now, turn comes to you how beautifully you craft yourself to benefit to stay with the excellence that Shankar Dev Campus offers for academic achievement and to experience the real life situations in global sphere. Message from the Deputy Director

The more the paradigm shift has been taking place in the area of communication, the greater impact of cyber environment has redefined the pattern of socialization and communication, global happening, and its economy, governance all rely on Information Technology exploiting the innovations in IT infrastructure, Application and Services.  The management dimension of IT has created massive impact to build the efficiency of the organization and led to higher performance within limited timeframe. 

Providing undergraduate course in information management at Shankar Dev Campus, we are garnering the talents to be a future leaders of corporate, social and public agencies through Bachelor of Information Management (BIM). We promise to provide the global standard academic environment at the faculty of BIM and to assure the internationally acclaimed quality to make our students able deal with the future challenges and cyber oriented management styles.

Apart from regular academic achievements, we attempt to transform young mindset with social responsibility, human values and concern for environment. We are hopeful that students will utilize the opportunity to realize their full potential at Shankar Dev campus. BIM Programme’s Mission and Objectives

BIM is multi faceted discipline that focuses on both Information Technology and Management. It will give you a well-rounded information management education to make you a more versatile and employable graduate .It is an undergraduate academic degree requiring four years of study to acquire it. The mission of FOM's BIM
programme is to develop socially responsive, creative and result oriented IT professionals to fill up the positions in the rapidly growing IT sector in Nepal and abroad.

The specific objectives of the BIM programme are:

  • To prepare a graduates who can understand, develop and use technology that gathers and provides information effectively , who are able to filter and recognize patterns in that information and who can apply those analysis to achieve business objectives.
  • To develop skills in Object-Oriented Software design methods and Data Management System
  • To develop skills in Network Management
  • To develop understanding of all aspects of management ranging from operation, human resource, marketing, strategy and accounting and finance.
  • To develop understanding of all aspects of existing and emerging information technologies and their impact on the Information system function.
  • To develop understanding of ethics and greater social responsibility.

Eligibility for CMAT

The candidate applying for admission to the BIM program of Tribhuvan University must have:
1. secured at least 2.41 CGPA with at least grade 'C' in each subject or 60% in  10+2 equivalent programmme
2. successfully completed a twelve-year schooling or its equivalent from any university, board
or institution recognized by Tribhuvan University.
3. passed  entranc test (CMAT)
Eligible applicants are required to appear in the entrance test commonly known as Central Management Admission Test (CMAT) conducted by the Faculty of Management. The test will
follow the international testing pattern and standards. It includes the areas like:
• Verbal ability
• Quantitative ability
• Logical reasoning
• General awareness
There shall be altogether one hundred (100) objective questions in the CMAT containing twenty
(25) questions in each section with a total weight of 100 marks. Student must secure a minimum
of 40% in the CMAT in order to qualify for the interview.
Interview
Applicants securing above cut off point marks in the CMAT will be short-listed. Only short listed
candidates will be interviewed and selected for admission.
Merit List
Admissions of the students in BIM program of Tribhuvan University will be strictly on the basis of
merit list. Merit list is prepared on the basis of:
1. 60% of CMAT Entrance examination
2. 30% of marks secured in percentage in plus two or equivalent
3. 10% Interview

Admission Criteria

As SDC BIM admission is merit based, it is exclusive. Only the highly competitive will be awarded this exclusive opportunity.

Every candidate should go through the examination procedure before he/she will be finally regarded eligible for an admission.

They are performed in a strictly formal environment. Failure in examination procedure will disqualify the candidate.

Lastly, he/she should fulfill all basic admission procedures.

Note: The admission is merit-based.

Attendance

Students are required to attend regularly all lectures, practical classes, seminars and presentations as required by the course.

A candidate must have attended minimum 80% of such activities in order to be eligible to appear in the Semester Examinations.

Teaching Pedagogy

Student-centered teaching is what the basis of BIM.

SDC BIM faculty members are exceptionally qualified and experienced in student-centered teaching system. Besides, most of them are researchers and experts in their respective fields, who possess expert knowledge of their subject of area as well as all essential pedagogical skills.

This technologically advanced and studentcentered teaching follows the following pedagogical procedures in SDC:

Internal Assessment & Evaluation

The make up exam will be held on semester cycle only for the academic year 2074/075 (2017 batch). But at the end of the semester who fails in 2 subjects only can appear in the make up exam Internal Assessment & Evaluation Internal assessment evaluation includes First and Second Assessments and Pre-Semester Send-up Test, constituting 40% marks. 

The marking of Internal Evaluation of Students’ performance has been divided into following sub-divisions:

  • I & II Assessments
  • Pre-Semester Send-up Test
  • Attendance
  • Discipline
  • Assignment
  • Group Discussion/Group Exercise
  • Presentation and Problem Solving
  • Field or Project Work

Evaluation and Grading

The students will be evaluated according to the evaluation and grading system of FOM, TU. Evaluation of students will be made through In-Semester Assessment and End-Semester Examination. In-Semester Assessment is internal assessment that covers 40% and End-Semester Examination covers 60% of the overall evaluation.

Scholarship and Awards

Scholarships are avaialbe with following types:

  • Full Semester tuition fee will be waived to the semester topper in each semester.
  • Two students are provided scholarship among every thirty two students who appeared in SLC/SEE from government/ community school and 10+2 from government/community higher secondary school or as per the specification provided by Office of the Dean, Faculty of Management, TU.
